We can probably agree that most business owners and office managers are interested in boosting efficiency in their workplace. However, there’s a “secret” that all the greatest people in leadership positions know: efficiency increases are rarely the result of a single dramatic change in the office.
Sure, there are big things that can be implemented, but more often than not what leads to an office working like a well oiled machine are the countless small decisions, the fine tuning of workflows and processes. In a way, it can actually be incredibly fascinating (and satisfying) to orchestrate these small-yet-significant changes and watch how productivity gradually increases.
In today’s post on the Professional Document Solutions blog, we’d like to cover one of those small but powerful upgrades to productivity and efficiency—the kind of thing that saves a few minutes here and a few more there, eventually building into hours and perhaps entire days saved annually.
We are, of course, talking about Xerox’s incredibly handy Print Around feature. Let’s see what it does:
What is the Print Around Feature for Modern Xerox Devices?
The Xerox Print Around feature is simple, but don’t underestimate its efficacy at keeping things running along smoothly during your average workday. The technology allows for tasks assigned to the ConnectKey-enabled MFP to continue being processed even if there’s a job ahead of those tasks in the queue that for whatever reason can’t be processed. Most commonly this is because of a paper mismatch.
In other words, even if the correct kind of paper isn’t available for a particular task, everyone else will still have their print tasks completed. While the job that was unable to be processed may still require manual intervention on part of the issuer, nobody else has their work halted because of it.
Scenarios Where the Print Around Feature is a Massive Timesaver and Efficiency-Booster
Imagine that you need to print a standard 8.5 x 11 document. At the same time, someone ahead of you in the printer queue is printing an A4 document—standard for European documents. Now, modern MFPs are smart enough to resize A4 documents as they’re very similar to our standard 8.5 x 11 documents here in the US, but for the sake of example let’s say that the A4 document had to be printed on A4 paper. Which, as it happens, wasn’t immediately available. Your standard document will still be printed, while the A4 task will be put on hold until the correct paper is loaded.
The Print Around feature is a must for busy offices with multiple personnel using the same Xerox multifunction printer simultaneously, but make no mistake about it, this feature can come in handy plenty of the time even in small offices where time-critical tasks need to be completed (e.g., while a client is visiting the office).
