The display screen on modern Xerox multifunction printers has been designed to be both intuitive and familiar. With its crisp display and touch controls, using it is quite similar to how you would use a smartphone. Thanks to its ease of use, especially compared to the hard-press physical buttons of yore, full-color touchscreens have allowed for greater complexity and customization for your print experience.
As you no doubt already know, a major part of those improvements has been the advent of Xerox Apps. Just like how you can install various apps on your phone, you can now add apps to your printer, extending its functionality and adding all kinds of different helpful software.
Of course, if that app is cloud based or otherwise requires the internet, you have to provide authentication credentials (a username and password) just like you would on your phone or computer. Typing in your credentials on the printer touchscreen isn’t that bad, but the innovators at Xerox thought there might be a better way…
Mobile Login for Xerox Apps: A Faster and More Convenient Way to Access Your MFP Apps
Rather than having to type out your credentials on the MFP’s touchscreen, the new Xerox Mobile Login feature allows you to simply scan a QR code with your phone to login. After setting up your phone, which you’ll only have to do once, you can retain all the security of a username and password without having to physically type it into the display panel.
The other big benefit is that you won’t have to remember the username and password while you’re standing at the MFP. On our desktop computers, laptops, or mobile devices, many of us choose to use password managers, software that can store your usernames and passwords for you in a secure way. However, these kinds of programs aren’t typically available at the printer, which means to hand-type your credentials, you have to either remember them or reference your password manager on your phone.
This process can become needlessly cumbersome, especially if you’re working in a busy environment, or an environment with a shared printer—others might be waiting while you’re typing in your credentials. Using a QR code to log in securely is a convenient time-saver for everyone.
Good to Know: QR Code Logins Are a Free and Optional Alternative
The Xerox Mobile Login feature is available for select Xerox Apps, including certain connector apps such as Xerox Connect for Exchange, or the Workplace Suite platform. However, this feature is totally optional. If your organization already has an authentication method in place—for instance, you’re happy with username and password authentication, or you use card-based authentication, or PIN-based authentication—you can keep doing what you’re doing, no problem.
If you’re interested in trying out Mobile Login, there’s another bit of good news: this feature is entirely free.
