Ah, the dreaded required update!

This time it’s for a good reason—we’ll explain.

Here’s what’s going on: certain older Xerox devices will have to install an update or begin using additional software to continue using Xerox Remote Services. As you know, the Remote Services system is required to facilitate the use of Xerox Automated Supplies Replenishment and Xerox Automated Meter Reads.

Your action, in the form of an on-device update or the use of additional software, must take place by February 15th, 2022 in order to continue using Xerox Remote Services.

First, we’ll explain why these updates or additional programs are required, then we’ll tell you which printers are affected.

Let’s begin:

The updates required for select Xerox devices to continue using Xerox Remote Services are security updates.

In other words, they’re important.

The updates (or use of additional software) will allow your device to use the latest encryption protocols in use by Xerox. This means that when you’re sending data via the Xerox Remote Services system—which collects meter reads, print supply amounts, and diagnostic information about your device—that it will remain encrypted and secure.

Yes, required updates can certainly be a nuisance, but these updates or the installation of additional software will be very easy to install and use. No specialized IT knowledge is required—the average user is expected to have little to no difficulty performing the updates or installing the software on their own.

Security updates are always a good thing, and Xerox has decided to make these ones required to maximize the safety of your data.

Which Printers Will Require Updates or Additional Software by February 2022?

While the list of every model affected is too long to display here in its entirety, the following types of device are affected:

  • ColorQube
  • Phaser

Please see the list of affected devices in this document as provided by Xerox.

Many devices can simply be upgraded, which generally be done from the unit itself. Some devices will require the use of device manager software, such as the Xerox Device Agent Software (otherwise known as XDA).

Don’t delay updating your printer or installing your preferred device manager software!

Not only is the new encryption protocol is intended to continue keeping your device data safe during transmission, if you don’t make the changes, you won’t be able to continue using Xerox services like automatic supply replenishment or automated meter reads. Small businesses often find themselves in a similar situation: they’ve grown enough to need modern office equipment, but not enough to hire dedicated IT personnel. Xerox IT support technicians are skilled, but typically bill for over $300 per hour, a fee most small businesses can’t justify.

That’s why we started the Annual Analyst Support Agreement. This service offers support for networking situations in offices with up to five Xerox devices and only costs $399 per year.
