If you’re a print service provider that’s been “in the game” for any length of time, you’ve probably had a bad afternoon that looks a little bit like this: that long run you’ve been working on is two thirds of the way done and you just noticed that the greens have wandered. The new stock you’re working with for this particular job takes you a couple of tries before it feeds and prints the way you want it to (and the way your client expects). It’s not the end of the world and nothing is broken, but you’ve lost a significant portion of your margin and you’re plenty irritated.
These kinds of bad afternoons are far less likely to happen with the right equipment and digital front end (DFE). If you haven’t investigated it yet, it’s time to start looking into the FS700X Pro platform designed for the Xerox Proficio PX300 and PX500 presses. Let’s take a look at it together:
The Print Server You’re Using Matters a Lot, and FS700X Pro Is on the Cutting Edge
As you already know, one of the most important components of a production press is its digital front end. It’s the “brain” of the device that works out how digital files should land on a sheet. When it makes good choices, your afternoon is a good one. When it makes bad choices, well, you know how that plays out.
The FS700X Pro platform was developed in collaboration with Fiery and Xerox. It has been specifically designed for the Proficio PX300 and PX500 presses. That specificity is what makes it so great, compared to the general purpose DFEs you’ll find on models from other manufacturers.
In addition to precision, the platform offers many other benefits for day-to-day use like a built-in cost estimator, health monitoring and job progress indicators, setup and calibration options that can be both fine-tuned by hand or ran automatically, and ready-made job presets that make operating the press easy even for your junior staff members.
Considering a Press Upgrade? Here’s How To Decide Between the PX300 and the PX500
Good news for anyone who suffers from “decision fatigue.” The PX300 and the PX500 aren’t wildly different presses. You just have to make some decisions about how you plan to use them. Bother presses support Ultra HD resolution, media of up to 400gsm, and a fifth color station. The FS700X Pro platform is fully supported on both.
So, what’s the difference? Speed and headroom, mostly. The PX300 runs 85 pages per minute, and the PX500 runs up to 100. The PX500 has some additional bells and whistles that you may find important to have, like Intelligent HyperRIP (great for print service providers running repetitive, heavy volume).
If you’re already running near capacity at your operation, the PX500 is a good choice. If your volume tends to be more moderate and steady, the PX300 will serve you well. Either way, you won’t compromise on color intelligence, automation options, or access to the FS700X Pro platform.
